Barr will face Chandler in Fall race for Congress

Barr will face Chandler in Fall race for congress

"Central Kentucky Republicans chose Garland H. "Andy" Barr on Tuesday to challenge U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler, D-Versailles, in the Nov. 2 election for the 6th Congressional District.

Barr, a Lexington lawyer, easily led the pack of six Republican hopefuls. He raised at least $430,000 in campaign funds, far more than the rest of his rivals put together.

"The message sent tonight by the voters is that Central Kentucky is concerned that Washington is spending too much, that it's fiscally irresponsible, and that it's living beyond its means," Barr said."... read more: Barr will Face Chandler in Fall race for Congress

Pence Denounces Democrat's Latest National Energy Tax

U.S. Congressman Mike Pence, Chairman of the House Republican Conference and the American Energy Solutions Group, released the following statement today after Senate Democrats introduced their latest version of climate legislation:

"In Indiana and across this nation, Americans want Congress to focus on policies that will create jobs. Instead, Democrats are continuing to push a job-killing national energy tax that will cap growth and trade jobs. This measure will force Americans to pay more for essentials like gas and electricity and force businesses to lay off workers; a point recently confirmed by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, which said a cap-and-tax system will lead to higher unemployment and lower wages. This bill is essentially an economic declaration of war on middle America.

"What the American people need is an environmentally-responsible all-of-the-above energy plan that develops American resources, creates jobs, and promotes energy independence. House Republicans continue to offer that plan." Pence Denounces Democrat's Latest National Energy Tax

Pelosi to Aspiring Musicians: Quit your job, Taxpayers will pay your healthcare
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said this week that thanks to the new health-care reform law musicians and other creative types could quit their jobs and focus on developing their talents because the taxpayers would fund their health care coverage.

“We see it as an entrepreneurial bill,” Pelosi said, “a bill that says to someone, if you want to be creative and be a musician or whatever, you can leave your work, focus on your talent, your skill, your passion, your aspirations because you will have health care.” From CNSNews.com

House Republicans introduce resolution opposing the VAT

House Republicans introduce resolution opposing the VAT
A value-added tax would damage the economy and hamper job creation, House Republicans said Tuesday.

"Several House leaders along with more than 80 other lawmakers introduced a nonbinding "sense of the House" resolution today opposing a VAT on top of the current tax code. The Senate recently approved a similar resolution.

"A European-style VAT will only further the catastrophic cycle of tax and spend government in Washington," House Ways and Means Committee member Wally Herger (R-Calif.) said in a release today.

Herger, Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) are responding to several recent comments by the Obama administration that the VAT is still on the table as a potential revenue raiser..." Pence: American Taxpayers Should not be responsible for bailing out Europe

Pence American Taxpayers Should not be responsible for bailing out Europe

“Our country is weary of borrowing and spending and bailouts from Washington, D.C. so the American people deserve to know we are bailing out Greece and future Americans may be picking up the tab for as much as $50 billion in additional loan guarantees for the rest of Europe in the form of a bailout.

“Here's how it works. The European Union's members and the IMF recently pledged $145 billion in the Greek bailout. Forty billion dollars of that came from the International Monetary Fund. Since the United States pays 17 percent, we are the largest contributor to the IMF. American taxpayers are on the hook for $6.8 billion in loan guarantees from the IMF and it may just be a down payment.."

Labor Department: Unemployment increased in April

Labor Department: Unemployment increased in April

"According to the newly released Labor Department’s jobs report, the unemployment rate increased for the first time in three months to 9.9 percent in April. In the past three previous months the unemployment rate has held steady at 9.7 percent.

April’s unemployment rate is disappointing to the economists who predicted that the unemployment rate would remain steady. Christina Romer, Obama’s economic adviser, claimed that more discouraged workers returning to the labor force has increased the unemployment rate to 9.9 percent." What Bob Bennett's defeat means

The Great Disentangling Has Begun, What Bob Bennett's defeat means, from RedState.com

"Here’s what Bob Bennett’s loss does not mean — conservatives have not won a huge victory. Yes, it was great. But it was one battle in a larger war of disentangling relationships. If Bob Bennett is replaced by Tim Bridgewater, a rent seeker disguised as a businessman, conservatives will not have advanced on the battlefield.

It is not, as some like to say, a purge. It never has been. It is an insurrection and a necessary fight. For too long conservatives have given their money and votes to Republicans who, every election year, whip out a red cloth with the word “judges” written on one side and “abortion” written on the other and wave it in front of the grassroots.

But the grassroots have realized they’ve been had. They were disappointed in Harriet Miers. They were disappointed in immigration. But the handling of the financial mess in 2008 broke their hearts. Compounding that is the Senate Republicans going around the country defending the status quo and choosing sides with a bunch of moderates.

Conservatives have nothing else to do but fight back, in defense of their values. And they are doing so today – because despite what the elites in Washington believe, conservatism is not just a set of talking points. It is not what you say at rallies to take money from the pockets of conservative Americans. It is not what other people tell you to say when you’re in public, and laugh about when you’re in private.

Conservatism is a philosophy of the proper role of government rooted firmly in the values free people across the world have believed in for centuries, and Americans have fought and died to defend. And it is not for sale...." from RedState.com

Tea Party claims scalp in Utah Sets sights on Kentucky

Tea Party Focuses on Kentucky

"Grayson’s challenger, Rand Paul, the son of former presidential candidate Ron Paul of Texas, has the backing of tea party activists, as well as former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, former GOP presidential candidate Steve Forbes and — after a switch last week — evangelical leader James Dobson.

Additionally, South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint has endorsed Paul as part of an attempt to push the party rightward, calling him “a true conservative who will stand up to the Washington establishment.”

“Rand is exactly the kind of leader Americans are looking for right now,” DeMint said. “He’s not a career politician and he’s got the guts to stand up to the massive spending, bailouts and debt that are being forced on us in Washington."

Rand Paul best choice to put Republicans on new path

Rand Paul best choice to put Republicans on new path:

"This could be a seminal year for the Republican Party, in Kentucky and around the nation. The rise of the Tea Party movement has produced a tug of war for the GOP's soul, a contest that already has prompted Florida Gov. Charlie Crist to drop his R label and launch an independent campaign for a U.S. Senate seat.

Tugging from one side are the establishment Republicans who have guided the party in recent years. Pulling in the opposite direction are those who think the party has strayed from its roots on such issues as deficit spending and the size and reach of the federal government.

Kentucky's Republican primary for the seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning offers a perfect example of this struggle

James Dobson Endorses Rand Paul

James Dobson Endorses Rand Paul

Have you ever made an embarrassing mistake? I did just that last week. I was given misleading information about the candidacy of Dr. Rand Paul, who is running in the Republican Primary for the U.S. Senate. Senior members of the GOP told me Dr. Paul is pro-choice and that he opposes many conservative perspectives, so I endorsed his opponent.

But now I've received further information from OB/GYN's in Kentucky whom I trust, and from interviewing the candidate himself.

I now know that he is avidly pro life. He believes that life begins at conception.

He opposes earmarking and supports Israel. He identifies with the Tea Party movement and believes in home schooling. Sounds like my kind of man.

If I lived in Kentucky, I would vote for Dr. Rand Paul. Would you consider sending him to the U.S. Senate to shake things up in Washington? James Dobson Endorses Rand Paul

Nashville Drowning: Obama Silent

Nashville Drowning: Obama Silent

"This weekend, Nashville received around 10 inches of rain - a record breaking rain fall that has caused an astounding amount of flooding. The surrounding rivers swelled and as of this afternoon have yet to crest, so water continues to rush through the streets and into buildings. Thousands have lost their homes. The Opryland Hotel is holding 8-10 feet of water. Businesses have lost everything.

Obama has yet to acknowledge that anything has even happened in Middle Tennessee… most likely because he’s in damage control mode, trying to salvage a response . Time is reporting that Gibbs addressed the emergency in today’s briefing." Nashville Drowning Obama Silent

Rand Paul Wins over GOP Skeptics in Kentucky

Rand Paul Wins over GOP Skeptics

"Paul has overcome a lot of skepticism among GOP loyalists in the past year — transforming himself from something of a political novelty to the candidate many believe will win his party's nomination for the Senate seat now held by Republican Jim Bunning, who is not seeking a third term.

Paul has done so with an Internet fundraising machine created for his father and a message of lower spending, balanced budgets and distrust of a political system that he says often is geared more toward winning the next election than fixing the country's problems.

And he tells voters not to believe anyone in Washington..." Rand Paul Wins over Kentucky GOP skeptics

GOP candidates for congress hope to end earmarks

GOP candidates for congress hope to end earmarks:

"Tired of yelling at their televisions during the news, four men from Central Kentucky each hope to join Congress to block what they see as President Barack Obama's socialist, ruinously expensive agenda.

To get there they must face one another and two much-better-funded rivals in the May 18 Republican primary for the 6th Congressional District. The winner has to oust four-term incumbent U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler, D-Versailles, on Nov. 2.

Adding to the challenge, they're attempting to win with scant campaign funds and without promising to bring projects back from Washington if elected. In fact, they pledge to abolish federal funding for local projects, arguing that the national government already is trillions of dollars in debt.."

Four Republican seek chance to topple Yarmuth
"Each is a fiscal and social conservative, all but one are new to politics and all say that, with unemployment reaching 12 percent in Louisville, their top priority would be creating jobs by lowering taxes.

“Jobs are the signature issue in this election,” said Todd Lally, a 39-year-old UPS pilot who lives eastern Louisville, one of four candidates hoping to win the May 18 Republican primary for Louisville’s 3rd Congressional District.

Lally’s competitors are 57-year-old Pizza Hut franchisee Jeffrey Reetz, 45-year-old financial adviser Larry Hausman, and 51-year-old accountant Brooks Wicker..."

Obama made $5m in 2009 and tells us we've made enough?

Obama made $5m in 2009 and tells us we've made enough?

In a stump speech in Quincy, Illinois, President Obama suggested that “I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money.” Video here.

Obama made almost $5.5 million last year, most of which came from book royalties according to his tax return.

This comes on top of the other millions of dollars Obama received in previous years. The fact that Obama has been in the public spotlight as a politician has undoubtedly had an impact on the royalties of his two books as well. Go ahead and compare Obama’s 2009 income with other presidents here.

And let’s not forget that while Obama stepped up his charitable giving this year, he was noted to have given very little to charity:
