Kentucky Farm Bureau to host "Measure the Candidates" forum on July 22 for U.S. Senate race nominees

Kentucky Farm Bureau to host "Measure the Candidates"
forum on July 22 for U.S. Senate race nominees

"Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul has raised eyebrows in Kentucky's agricultural world by his repeated criticism of federal subsidies for farming operations, which he says disproportionately favor corporate farming.

He'll have a chance to explain his position and perhaps defend it when he and Democratic Senate candidate Jack Conway appear before the Kentucky Farm Bureau's Board of Directors on July 22 in Louisville for a "Measure the Candidates" forum.

The Farm Bureau plans to compare the candidates responses to Bureau policy on energy, environmental regulations, fiscal policy, health care, immigration & farm labor, international trade & marketing and national farm policy...." Rand Paul Farm Bureau

First faceoff reveals campaign playbook for Conway, Paul

First faceoff reveals campaign playbook for Conway, Paul

"In the first face to face meeting since the primary of Kentucky's U.S. Senate candidates, both tried to paint the other as out of step with Kentucky.

The main themes of the fall campaign are now established. Republican Rand Paul says he's the only candidate who will challenge the way Washington works. Democrat Jack Conway says though some changes are needed, government is not necessarily the problem.

Speaking at the joint session of the Kentucky County Judge Executives Association and Kentucky Municipal Clerks Association, each candidate strained to define both his own views and the views of his opponent.

"(Conway) will have to distance himself from this president and his party if he wishes to have any chance in Kentucky," Paul said, "We'll see if he can do this and do this in a believable way."

Rand Paul Takes Principled Stand Against Courier Slur

from BluegrassBulletin.com

"Rand Paul Takes Principled Stand Against Courier Slur

The Courier Journal, hell bent to undercut the Rand Paul campaign, has once again taken old information, pasted on a new headline and called it a scoop. If their political meddling wasn't so apparent their story might help sell papers in the future, but as it is, few but the most gullible will pay for a Sunday dead tree edition under such a ruse in the future..." from BluegrassBulletin.com

Tea Party claims scalp in Utah Sets sights on Kentucky

Tea Party Focuses on Kentucky

"Grayson’s challenger, Rand Paul, the son of former presidential candidate Ron Paul of Texas, has the backing of tea party activists, as well as former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, former GOP presidential candidate Steve Forbes and — after a switch last week — evangelical leader James Dobson.

Additionally, South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint has endorsed Paul as part of an attempt to push the party rightward, calling him “a true conservative who will stand up to the Washington establishment.”

“Rand is exactly the kind of leader Americans are looking for right now,” DeMint said. “He’s not a career politician and he’s got the guts to stand up to the massive spending, bailouts and debt that are being forced on us in Washington."

Rand Paul best choice to put Republicans on new path

Rand Paul best choice to put Republicans on new path:

"This could be a seminal year for the Republican Party, in Kentucky and around the nation. The rise of the Tea Party movement has produced a tug of war for the GOP's soul, a contest that already has prompted Florida Gov. Charlie Crist to drop his R label and launch an independent campaign for a U.S. Senate seat.

Tugging from one side are the establishment Republicans who have guided the party in recent years. Pulling in the opposite direction are those who think the party has strayed from its roots on such issues as deficit spending and the size and reach of the federal government.

Kentucky's Republican primary for the seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning offers a perfect example of this struggle

James Dobson Endorses Rand Paul

James Dobson Endorses Rand Paul

Have you ever made an embarrassing mistake? I did just that last week. I was given misleading information about the candidacy of Dr. Rand Paul, who is running in the Republican Primary for the U.S. Senate. Senior members of the GOP told me Dr. Paul is pro-choice and that he opposes many conservative perspectives, so I endorsed his opponent.

But now I've received further information from OB/GYN's in Kentucky whom I trust, and from interviewing the candidate himself.

I now know that he is avidly pro life. He believes that life begins at conception.

He opposes earmarking and supports Israel. He identifies with the Tea Party movement and believes in home schooling. Sounds like my kind of man.

If I lived in Kentucky, I would vote for Dr. Rand Paul. Would you consider sending him to the U.S. Senate to shake things up in Washington? James Dobson Endorses Rand Paul

Rand Paul Wins over GOP Skeptics in Kentucky

Rand Paul Wins over GOP Skeptics

"Paul has overcome a lot of skepticism among GOP loyalists in the past year — transforming himself from something of a political novelty to the candidate many believe will win his party's nomination for the Senate seat now held by Republican Jim Bunning, who is not seeking a third term.

Paul has done so with an Internet fundraising machine created for his father and a message of lower spending, balanced budgets and distrust of a political system that he says often is geared more toward winning the next election than fixing the country's problems.

And he tells voters not to believe anyone in Washington..." Rand Paul Wins over Kentucky GOP skeptics

Paul's Top Goal is to cut Federal Spending

Rand Paul's Top Goal is to Cut Federal Spending
"Rand Paul sounds nothing like any major candidate for the U.S. Senate in Kentucky ever has, let alone a front-runner for the Republican nomination.

He complains as much about actions of those in his own party as he does about Democrats. He has said he doesn't need the Republican power structure to win the party's May 18 primary or the November election to replace U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning. And he rarely mentions Kentucky in stump speeches.

Instead, he sticks to his big-picture message of slashing spending, constraining federal powers and imposing term limits on members of Congress. And he brought with him into the race his own constituency of frustrated voters...." Read More Paul's Top Goal is to cut federal spending

Rand Paul has a chance in Kentucky

Rand Paul has a chance in Kentucky

"Palin isn’t the only prominent Republican to pick Paul over Grayson. The publisher, flat-tax maven, and former presidential candidate Steve Forbes is a Paul backer. So is former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, whose organization FreedomWorks lists Paul as one of the five most important candidates to support in 2010. Concerned Women for America has endorsed Paul, helping to allay concerns about his social conservatism. Gun Owners of America weighed in on Paul’s behalf as well, though there were never any questions about his opposition to gun control.

Paul is even starting to be mentioned alongside other conservative movement–approved candidates in the Republican primaries: Marco Rubio in Florida, Ovide Lamontagne in New Hampshire, and Chuck DeVore in California. Such company has helped him appeal to Republicans who wanted to read his father out of the party in 2008, such as Erick Erickson of the activist conservative blog RedState."

Rand Paul wants Tea Party Movement to push for broader reform

Rand Paul wants Tea Party to push for broader reform platform
""Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul said he wants the Tea Party movement that has fueled his primary campaign to morph into a broader government reform effort that would have appeal beyond conservative circles.

"I'd like to see in the fall of this year a Tea Party message. In order to have that you have to write it down and define it," he told reporters after addressing the Louisville Tea Party on Thursday.

He then listed potential tenets of that platform: congressional term limits; balancing the budget, stating in bills what part of the U.S. Constitution authorizes Congress to take such actions, requiring lawmakers to sign a document that they've read the bills they're voting on, and instituting a waiting period for Congress to vote on a bill. Paul suggested a delay of one day for every 20 pages...."
