GOP ticket with tea party support close to forming

GOP ticket with tea party support close to forming

"The first Republican gubernatorial ticket for 2011 — and one with the backing of tea party activists — could be announced by the end of this week and perhaps as soon as Tuesday, key conservatives confirmed to cn|2 Politics on Monday night.

Conservative radio show host Leland Conway said he has been put on notice that a slate could be announced on his afternoon radio show on Lexington’s WLAP-630 AM “as early as tomorrow.”

Conway said he wasn’t at liberty to talk about who might be on the ticket. But he eliminated the possibility that he might be a candidate in 2011.

The name of David Adams, the campaign chairman of Republican candidate Rand Paul’s U.S. Senate bid, has popped up in the middle of much speculation about the ticket..."

Labor Department: Unemployment increased in April

Labor Department: Unemployment increased in April

"According to the newly released Labor Department’s jobs report, the unemployment rate increased for the first time in three months to 9.9 percent in April. In the past three previous months the unemployment rate has held steady at 9.7 percent.

April’s unemployment rate is disappointing to the economists who predicted that the unemployment rate would remain steady. Christina Romer, Obama’s economic adviser, claimed that more discouraged workers returning to the labor force has increased the unemployment rate to 9.9 percent." Republicans have their sights set to take over another Kennedy seat

"Republicans put themselves back on the map in the Northeast by stealing one Kennedy seat. And now, the last vestige of the Kennedy legacy has become a cause célèbre.

Rhode Island state Rep. John Loughlin has found himself the unwitting beneficiary of a concerted effort by 2008 GOP presidential candidates to take that other Kennedy seat — retiring Democratic Rep. Patrick Kennedy’s eastern Rhode Island district...." The Hill

Gov Beshear leaves Kentuckyians scratching their heads...

"Once again, Steve Beshear has left Kentuckians scratching their heads and wondering “what was our Governor thinking?” In case you missed it, the Associated Press is reporting that Gov. Beshear has restricted when the flag can be lowered for fallen service members. Now, the flag will only be lowered for service members “born” in Kentucky – excluding the thousands of military personnel who currently call our state home (AP, 7/24/08).

In the article, Sen. Elizabeth Tori (R-Radcliff), whose district covers Fort Knox, was right on with her statement that “any soldier stationed in Kentucky should be honored by the state if they're killed in action” and that “the governor, as well as everyone in our nation, owes them a debt.” State Rep. Tim Moore (R-Elizabethtown), who served in Afghanistan, was also appalled – calling the Governor’s decision “disgraceful.” Moore noted in the AP article that Beshear is ignoring the fact that “residents around Fort Knox consider soldiers part of their community” (AP, 7/24/08). ........." from Kentucky GOP

Lunsford in Chicago for July 4th

from Kentucky Politics:
"Now, we learn that Bruce went back home to Chicago for the weekend, on his private jet. (See pictured.) Campaigning is rough business, we realize. But the clock is ticking and election day isn't that far away. Don't you think a candidate for U.S. Senate, especially someone who's way behind in the polls, should have stayed in Kentucky to make the Fourth of July..." Kentucky Politics

Poll Gives Davis Big Edge

"Two-term Republican Congressman Geoff Davis of Boone County holds a 13-point lead over Democrat Michael Kelley in a poll released Tuesday.

Davis leads Kelley, an Oldham County physician making his first run for office, 54 percent to 41 percent, according to a SurveyUSA poll done for WCPO-TV in Cincinnati, WLEX-TV in Lexington and WHAS-TV in Louisville. The automated phone poll of 550 likely voters was conducted June 28-30 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.2 percentage points.

Five percent of voters are undecided.

"There's only one poll that matters, and that's on Election Day," Davis campaign manager Jeremy Hughes said in an e-mail. "Congressman Davis is raising funds, organizing volunteers, and preparing for another tough election. We will take nothing for granted this fall."

According to the poll, Davis leads among men (by 22 points) and women (by 6 points) over Kelley. Kelley leads by 3 points among voters 18 to 34. Davis leads by 14 percentage points among voters 35 to 49, 19 percentage points among voters 50 to 64 and 27 percentage points among voters 65 and older.

In the poll, 21 percent of Democrats cross party lines to support Davis; 9 percent of Republicans support Kelley.".... Poll Gives Davis Edge

Fourth of July What Does Patriotism mean to Obama?

Fourth of July What does Patriotism mean to Obama?
"No doubt Barack Obama will take advantage of the upcoming Fourth of July holiday to speak more platitudes to the American people about patriotism. But it is fair, don't you think, to look at his actions in addition to listening to his words? Here's a reminder:... Bluegrass Bulletin
