McConnell: We're "not leaving" until bailout is passed

McConnell: We're "not leaving" until the bailout is passed

"Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said the Senate still intends to move ahead -- although he doesn't know when.

"We're not leaving town until this is fixed," he just told reporters.

McConnell declined to point fingers over the failure of the bailout bill in the House Monday afternoon.

Instead, McConnell pleaded for quick action.

“Let’s fix the problem instead of fixing blame,” McConnell said.

McConnell said today’s record-breaking losses on Wall Street only underscore the need for immediate action.

Senator Mitch McConnell in Danville KY

"Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell said his energy plan would cut oil imports into
the United States in half over time.
The four-term senator promoted his
proposal to encourage more energy production and more conservation in a speech
to the Danville Rotary Club on Friday.
Energy issues have been at the
forefront of McConnell’s race against Democratic challenger Bruce Lunsford, a
Louisville businessman.
Noting the November election, McConnell said Kentucky
would lose considerable influence in Washington if he were replaced by someone
with no seniority in the Senate"..... Senator Mitch McConnell in Danville KY

$10 gallon gas doesn't change Senates mind

$10 Gas Doesn't Change Dem Senator's Mind on Oil Drilling

"There was a rather extraordinary confrontation on the Senate floor Thursday involving offshore oil drilling that got very little press coverage.
Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kent.) tried to get Democrats to vote on a measure that would open up such drilling if the price of gasoline reached a certain level.
Although the "bidding" eventually reached $10 a gallon, Colorado's Ken Salazar continually objected. ...." News Busters

McConnell Increase Domestic Oil Production

McConell Increase Domestic Oil Production
"We should allow responsible energy exploration off the Outer Continental Shelf, at least 50 miles from the coast, where states choose to do so. After all, the offshore areas off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts contain more oil than total U.S. imports from all Persian Gulf countries over the last 15 years combined -- yet 85 percent of this area is currently off limits....." McConnell Victory Critical for GOP

"Senator McConnell is actually a bright spot because he's gotten our party on the offensive on the No. 1 issue in the country, which is $4 gasoline," said Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn.....

"McConnell's party is trying to hold on to enough seats to deny majority Democrats absolute power in the Senate and prevent McConnell's authority from being sharply undercut...." McConnell Victory Critical

Sen McConnell Energy Bill Prices at the Pump

Senator McConnell, Mitch McConnell
"There's clearly nothing more important in the country for Congress to deal with ... than the price of gas at the pump," said Sen. Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.). The minority leader said his party would continue to hold up business on the Senate floor until Democrats allowed them to offer a series of amendments on expanded offshore drilling, oil-shale development, nuclear power and other energy alternatives.
Republicans have been trying to use a swell of public support for increased petroleum production -- including areas currently closed on the Outer Continental Shelf -- to break Democrats' opposition to lifting a decades-old drilling moratorium......" Energy Bill

McConnell Energy Bill Sen Mitch McConnell

"Inspired, perhaps, by Newt Gingrich’s “Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less” petition, one group -- led by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) -- is trying to do something about the price of gasoline right now.
McConnell -- joined by 42 Senate Republicans -- introduced the “Gas Price Reduction Act of 2008” on June 26. The bill -- which Reid has so far refused a vote -- would open up 14 billion barrels of oil in the Outer Continental Shelf to oil drilling at the option of the states.
More than three times the oil reserves of Saudi Arabia are embedded in Western states’ oil shale, estimated at 800 billion to 2 trillion barrels of recoverable oil. The Gas Price Reduction Act also lifts the Congressionally-imposed moratorium on exploration and development of this huge oil reserve. ..." McConnell Energy Bill

Lunsford in Chicago for July 4th

from Kentucky Politics:
"Now, we learn that Bruce went back home to Chicago for the weekend, on his private jet. (See pictured.) Campaigning is rough business, we realize. But the clock is ticking and election day isn't that far away. Don't you think a candidate for U.S. Senate, especially someone who's way behind in the polls, should have stayed in Kentucky to make the Fourth of July..." Kentucky Politics

Bruce Lunsford’s campaign accepts money spent on its behalf by the oil and gas industry

from TeamMitch

"Bruce Lunsford’s hypocrisy knows no bounds. Bruce Lunsford attacks Mitch McConnell for taking campaign contributions from the oil and gas industry while accepting DSCC campaign expenditures funded by the oil and gas industry. He attacks oil companies and Wall Street for driving up the price of gas, yet has invested millions in oil and gas companies and speculation. ...." from TeamMitch Blog

New Senate Poll Shows McConnell Up

New Senate Poll Shows McConell Up

"The Rasmusson
poll
continues to lurch along, this time towards Senate Republican Leader
Mitch McConnell. The poll shows McConnell up by seven points (48-41) over
perennial candidate Bruce Lunsford.Last month, Rasmusson asserted that McConnell
was down by five points. It's hard to believe a poll that swings twelve points
for no apparent reason.McConnell's favorable rating, according to the poll, is
56 percent (40 percent unfavorable). Lunsford is viewed favorably by only 43
percent (46 percent negative)...." from Elephants in the Bluegrass

Sen McConnell $100,000 cars not a solution

"Senator Mitch McConnell believes that along with conservation and the development of new technologies, part of any serious long-term solution to our energy crisis must include increased domestic energy exploration and production. The way to lower energy prices is to increase our supply of energy. By opening areas to exploration and production that are currently off-limits including wilderness and off-shore areas, we can create American jobs and reduce our dependence on foreign oil...."
